I am fourth year Mechanical undergrad. Recently, I learner about turbine and the turbine shown is called Pelton turbine

This will efficiently function for hundreds upon hundreds of years unlike All this woke made in China B.S. that barely last 20 years has to be thrown away and start it all over!

Awesome video. I am a big fan of water power instead of wind generators - because of their efficiency. Talking about the "92%" ... I would suppose that this is only the *mechanical* efficiency; not electrical efficiency. It is a valid value for a turbine of that type and can even be exceeded to around 96% by other turbine styles (see wikipedia).

How many square miles of solar panels would be needed to match the energy output of this dam?

92% is not overall efficiency ! we have penstock losses,exit losses,frictional losses in bearings eddy losses in generator ! heating losses in transmission ! but ya pelton wheel is pretty efficient !

This electricity does not "come from water", but from the sun. You need the sun to move the water back on the hill (by the evaporation and rain).

When I see a Pelton wheel I always remember breaking the runner in the Lab

I was in the generator room of the hoover dam once. Standing next to a 40 ton solid steel shaft rotating about as fast as this one. What i found amazing was that there was no vibration, no sound: nothing. I was awestruck.
